General 2/14

High/Low Indicator - Bearish

ADL Line - Bearish

Haurlin Indices - Bearish

Momentum Indicators - Bearish

Index Trend - Down

Stock Trend - Down

Most Actives - Down

It was an extremely volatile week on Wall Street. At weeks' end the blue-chip S&P 500 was down 0.8%, while the over-the-counter NASDAQ Composite index had lost 2.2%.

We saw a degradation of market breadth typically associated with significant corrections. The NYSE advance-decline line had a net loss of 2718 issues for the week; new 52-week lows continued to increase from 73 on Monday to 81, 97, 104, and finally 161 on Friday.

The NYSE advance-decline line has now completely broken down and is racing downwards to test its October 1998 low.

Overall it is not a good time to be in stock funds or stocks in general, unless you are watching specific issue carefully. TIAA/CREF should be heavily weighted toward the money market funds.

The above comments are abstracted from our newsletter and from MutualFundStrat@investools.com.

There are lots of stocks in our lists that look attractive for investment, but it is relatively uncommon to find stocks that are rated above average by all of the services we follow, rank A+, offer good profit potential, sell at prices and PE's not considered too unreasonable, and have at least satisfactory price trends. The three stocks recommended on 1/2/99 satisfy these criteria.

Short-term

10/22/98 General Electric

Performance

The recommendations are arranged by date. This provides a record of performance.

We do not favor a specific buy-sell strategy. Instead we rely on the general principle that the investor should arrange to stop losses, and devise a strategy for taking profits.

Trading and investing decisions are highly personal and for this reason we hesitate to suggest hard and fast rules.

Themost highly recommended stocks in the income category of our stock database have consistently grown at about the same rate as the DJIA. Dividend averages about 3% to 4%, depending on the interest rate environment prevalent at the time.

Newsletter growth stocks flagged as attractive have produced average gains on a month to month basis at a rate roughly three times that of the DJIA since Aug. 1996.

Signals produced in the Short Term Trading area have proven correct a distinct majority of the time, with a hit/miss ratio exceeding 0.7.

Goal

Our goal is to help investors and traders locate securities offering unusually good profit potential and provide technical analysis support to define attractive buying and selling opportunities for the selected securities.

Ourweb based "newsletter", STT Advisor and Options Advisor supplement the "other" sources of information available to the relatively new breed of "individual Internet investor" seeking to do his own research.

"Other" sources include newspapers, broker websites, Value Line, Standard & Poor's, etc.

The Web Based Newsletter

Signals are based on fundamental indicators such as P/E, earnings growth, price trend, analysts recommendations, GIV, etc.

Link to Definitions for a definition of these and other indicators.

There are many fundamental indicators, but we stress those (such as GIV) that provide a measure of expected performance.

The fundamental indicators provide supporting evidence.

Tradersweb evaluation criteria such as GIV provide a solid basis for making buy/sell decisions.

STT Trader

Our signals are are derived from several standard technical indicators.

Timeliness is at the heart of successful trading. Being even a day late with a prediction can make all the difference in the record of performance.

Link to a description of the use of STT for short term trading. Similar considerations apply to the use of STT Trader for monitoring your portfolio.

TradersWeb Short Term Trader predicts the short-term price movement of selected stocks.

The trading signals we publish assist in the selection of a specific time to make a trade.

New signals are published on the Web each day for the stocks we follow. Click here for recent predictions. (Then, select the "recent predictions" link under "See an Example" on the Tradersweb page.)

Three Elements

There are three elements to our investment strategy.

1) Select stocks based on sound fundamental analysis.

2) Use technical analysis to determine entry and exit timing.

3) Provide timely tips for long-term investors and, short-term and options traders.

The recommendations we make here are based on our research on several thousand stocks.

The data supporting the selections are available on our web-site.

Who Benefits

These examples are excerpted from a recent Schwab ad in IBD.

Retired, has about $2 million;
" I don't want to be told how to invest my money. With the right information I can do it myself."

Just starting out, has accumulated about $36,000;
"I wasn't very sophisticated. I knew how to balance my checkbook."

Recent survey's have shown that investors who trade on the Internet like to make their own decisions. They also like to do their own research on the companies they are considering for purchase.  Most prefer not to have a stockbroker tell them what the "hottest" new  company he or she is trying to push maybe.  They prefer to find it themselves. To serve this new breed of investors we have coined the term "dynamic investing".

Dynamic investing does not replace traditional methods such as dollar cost averaging, "buy and hold", etc. It is, instead, a means for enhancing the performance of such methods by applying additional information to the decision processes required. Low transaction fees allow for more frequent trading, and significantly enhanced profit potential.
