This book was written
(1996) to serve as an introduction to securities markets and the
brokerage industry for those potential investors who feel
uncomfortable with the depth of their knowledge about the economy, the
financial markets, where various types of securities are sold, or the
manner in which the securities markets operate.
- The reader need not have any
significant background in economics, mathematics, or the securities
markets.
- All major topics are presented from
an introductory point of view. Some readers may wish to skip the
more basic sections of the text.
- Emphasis is placed upon developing
methods for successful long term investing in common stocks and
mutual funds for income, growth, and income with growth.
- An appropriate background for
achieving this goal is provided.
- Fundamental and technical evaluation
tools are presented and methods for using them in making carefully
reasoned investment decisions are explained.
- The tools described can be used as a
basis for shorter term trading, and application for trading purposes
is also considered, but that is not the primary objective.
